We are looking for interns

Would you like to help Danish companies and organizations prosper in the intersection between science, technology, 
innovation and export? How about doing it in the world’s number one technology hub? Consulate General of Denmark in Silicon Valley, is looking for talented and energetic interns from August 1st 2019.

NB: New position added: Energy & Environment.      

We are looking for five new interns in the areas of Corporate Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Investment, Communication, Research & Education and Energy and Environment. We are looking for someone who is eager to learn and develop professionally as well as personally in one of the most interesting and fast-paced business eco-systems in the world. We require that you are currently enrolled in a Master’s program at a Danish University and most importantly that you are interested in innovation, technology, future trends and creating value for Danish companies. The knowledge, skills and interests that you bring with you will highly influence your assigned projects. The 6-month internship runs from August 1st 2019 to January 31st 2020. What we expect from you

For all five positions, it is essential that you embrace working on diverse projects across a complex organization and thrive in an environment where you will have lots of responsibility and influence in defining and executing your daily tasks. Additionally, you are motivated working towards a deadline and not afraid of getting your hands dirty. As to your academic background, we are not looking for any specific line of studies, rather, we prefer you are:

  • Open-minded with a strong drive to perform individually as well as part of a team.
  • A sharp analyst experienced in collecting and presenting complex information in a concise manner.
  • Excited about creating value for companies, research instititions and public organisations and supporting start-ups and corporates scaling their businesses.
  • Ready for any challenges.

Who are we and what can we offer?

Innovation Centre Denmark Silicon Valley, located at the Consulate General Silicon Valley, is an innovative cooperation between the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (The Trade Council, including Invest in Denmark) and the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science. It is one of the direct results of the globalization strategy designed by the Danish government in 2006 to achieve the ambitious objective of becoming one of the leading knowledge based nations in the world by 2020. The team members bridge research institutions, companies and capital in Denmark and Silicon Valley; accelerate the entry of Danish companies into Silicon Valley; facilitate research cooperation and provide inspiration to help drive innovation in Denmark. At the Consulate General, we also create value for Danish companies by creating access to the Californian market and we promote US investments in Denmark.

The internships are unpaid but with a monthly rent support of DKK 4000.

The Innovation Centre has a wide range of activities and as one of our interns, you will be able to gain experience across all activities. We are currently seeking interns within the following teams:

New: Energy & Environment (1 position)

This team deals with Energy and Environmental issues in California. The State has very ambitious political goals for energy, climate and environment. The team’s goal is to support Danish companies and solutions on the Californian market. We work closely with Danish partners and reach out to Californian regulators, companies and utilities to develop projects and collaboration opportunities. We meet customers and key stakeholders, arrange technical workshops and delegation trips.
Your profile can be either commercial or technical, but you will most likely be interested in energy, climate and sustainability and looking to establish an international career in this field.
The experience and skills that you bring will determine your work assignments but you will most likely be working closely with the team to assist with the following activities:

  • Plan and coordinate meetings and workshops.
  • Work closely with Danish companies in California
  • Develop pilot & flagship projects
  • Some travel activity within California can be expected.

Innovation Support (2 positions)

This team has two overall goals: consulting and facilitating access to the US market for Danish technology companies of all sizes and maturity within a wide array of industries and promoting US investments in Denmark. We work on a one-on-one basis through delegation visits, Boot Camps, Academies, and Master Classes. The team has very versatile projects, and you will mainly be assisting the Innovation Support team with the following activities:

  • Explore emerging trends and prepare reports for knowledge sharing.
  • Assist Danish companies of all sizes and maturity boost their innovation and capabilities.
  • Support business models and activities.
  • Assist Danish technology start-ups scale globally through our platform ScaleIT.
  • Attract foreign capital and investors to Denmark.
  • Support North American companies establish business activities.
  • Support Innovation Project(s) which for example in 2018 was Future of Work.

Innovation & Marketing (1 position)

This team deals with the overall marketing efforts, in order to increase the visibility of our work and improve our communication platforms through a wide effort of marketing, public relations and social media. The experience and skills that you bring will determine your work assignments, and you will be working with the Managing team to assist with the following activities across the organization:

  • Plan and coordinate media efforts across the organization.
  • Write and create visual content on Social Media and other promotional platforms.
  • Conduct data-driven analyses in order to measure efforts against KPIs.
  • Management of web-platforms.
  • Support business development related projects.
  • Support Innovation Project(s) which for example in 2018 was Future of Work.

Innovation & Research (1 position)

Besides being part of Innovation Centre Denmark and the Danish Foreign Ministry, the Research & Education team is also part of the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science. We have strategic partnerships with Stanford University, UC Berkeley and other world-renowned universities in the area. On the Research & Education team, you will learn the art of cutting-edge research in Silicon Valley and assist with the following activities:

  • Establish networks and contacts between Danish and Californian research communities and scholarship- and exchange-programs like the Lundbeck Foundation Clinical Research Fellowship Program.
  • Promote Danish research, innovation, and higher education.
  • Collect, promote, and disseminate best practice within science, technology, innovation, and higher education in Silicon Valley by drafting reports on topics such as Academic Makerspaces,  The Future of Digitalization and The Future of Education for the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science.
