TechPlomacy
Do you want to help place Denmark at the forefront of the global debate on the consequences of technology for society and foreign policy? As the TechPlomacy intern, you will be a part of the Tech Ambassador’s team in the leading technological epicenter of the world.
With offices in Copenhagen and Silicon Valley, the Tech Ambassador and the surrounding global team contribute to rethinking the traditional way of conducting diplomacy. The TechPlomacy team’s location in Silicon Valley provides a unique access to the world's most dynamic and innovative ecosystem. You will get the opportunity to meet some of the world’s most prominent tech companies, think tanks, elite universities, and representations of like-minded countries. In addition, you will have the opportunity to delve into the geopolitics of new and emerging technologies and be on the forefront of the newest development within cyber, generative AI and quantum technology. You will help translate the immense potential, but also the severe challenges that technology has for Denmark and the world.
TechPlomacy
As our TechPlomacy intern you will contribute to the team’s political functions and help increase the visibility and quality of TechPlomacy’s communication across its channels. The position will, thus, provide you with the opportunity to actively contribute to political initiatives, while also building your communication skills to enhance TechPlomacy’s messaging and outreach. You will be part of a transatlantic team and support the team on a variety of tasks, including preparing our flagship event, the Cyber & Tech Retreat, which is held annually in the Spring semester.
Your tasks will include, but not be limited to:
- Support on developing briefing papers, biographies, background papers and other written assignments
- Contribute to research, and create input and drafts for mission reports, an important part of the Foreign Service’s (UM) work
- Practical support at the Cyber & Tech Retreat in close collaboration with the Silicon Valley team. Participate in meetings with the industry, academia and civil society as an observer in collaboration with the team.
- Answering external inquiries and invitations to the Tech Ambassador
- Production of digital content and messaging for use on TechPlomacy’s digital platforms, including X and our website
- Take part in the preparation of incoming and outgoing visits, including ministerial visits
- Support the team with the cultivation and maintenance of the Silicon Valley network through participation in and reporting from events and meetings with tech companies, international organizations, and university environments
You will during the internship:
- Gain a greater knowledge of technology and its societal implications
- Gain experience within strategic and political communication
- Work closely with the Tech Ambassador’s team, both in Silicon Valley and Copenhagen´
- Gain a solid understanding of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the work processes in the Foreign Service
- Obtain insight into foreign and security policy priorities
- Have a permanent mentor assigned to you who will continuously have conversations with you and offer you guidance during your internship
What do we expect from you?
The good applicant must possess excellent analytical skills and a strong ability to grasp complex foreign policy issues. They are expected to be a skilled communicator both in writing, graphically and through SoMe and visual media. Similarly, they must be able to formulate and communicate complex messages in both English and Danish and target these to relevant audiences. Characteristics such as creativity, curiosity and initiative are, furthermore, considered an advantage.
We are an agile unit, and it is, therefore, of great importance that you are able to actively contribute with ideas and effectively execute on these.
