Political and Strategic Communications Advisor

Do you have a knack for writing engaging and inspiring texts whether it should be social media posts, articles or political insights? Are you interested in communicating about technology, innovation and the green transition in California, while branding Denmark in California? Then you might be the one that Consulate General and Innovation Centre Denmark in Silicon Valley are looking for!

As the Political and Strategic Communication Advisor you will be working directly with the Consul General and Management team advising on how the Danish mission can strengthen its communication towards Danish and Californian stakeholders, which include universities, start-ups, corporates and relevant organisations within the ecosystems.

You will work closely with a highly skilled team of 15+ advisors within digital technologies, entrepreneurship, sustainability, life science and health tech. You will provide experience and expertise within strategic and digital communication while also developing, implementing, and executing communication efforts including press activities. Furthermore, you will be the main point of contact regarding Public Diplomacy initiatives (branding of Denmark) to increase knowledge of Danish values on the west coast of US. Finally, it is also the Political and Strategic Communication Advisor’s role to support in connection with delegation visits, high level meetings and events including coordinating efforts across teams and providing political briefs, background papers, analyses and reports.

The Advisor refers directly to the Consul General and is supported by a communication intern, who he/she will be supervising.
The role includes coordination between our other missions in North America, HQ in Denmark and other ministries/authorities. It is therefore essential that you possess excellent coordination and cooperation skills.

Furthermore, the ideal candidate for the position has following qualifications:

  • A university degree in communication, journalism, creative writing or similar.
  • 4-5 years of experience as a communication consultant in either a private or public firm.
  • Hands-on experience with creating and implementing campaigns and communication strategies. Preferably within innovation, technology and/or the green transition.
  • Great coordination and planning skills.
  • Extraordinary digital skills within social media, website content and video production. Experience with Sitecore and Canva is a big plus.
  • Passionate about communicating and making an impact by communicating strong and clear messages.
  • Interest in political matters. Experience from a political organisation is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact and work with a diverse group of people.
  • Well organised and able to meet deadlines.

Employment conditions

  • You will be hired as a “Political and Communications Advisor” at Consulate General of Denmark in Silicon Valley, 299 California Ave, Suite 100, Palo Alto, CA 94306
  • You will be offered full time employment for 2 years on a local contract with the possibility of extension.
  • Your standard working hours are 37 hours per week without upper limit.
  • Starting date will preferably be June 1st 2023 or as soon as possible.
  • Your contract is regulated according to the “Staff Rules” of the Danish representations in North America.
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant work experience and proven work-related results.
  • Other benefits: paid 5 weeks of vacation, healthcare (80% employer contribution) and pension scheme.
