Would you like to help Danish companies, startups, and universities prosper in the intersection between science, technology , sustainability, and innovation? Would you like to improve your skills in these fields? Then you might be one of our eight new interns starting in February 2023.

Would you like to help Danish companies, knowledge institutions, and organizations prosper in the intersection between science, technology, sustainability and innovation? And would you like to improve your communication skills within these fields? Now you can! Innovation Centre Denmark is located in two of the leading technology hubs in the US, Boston and Silicon Valley, and we are looking for eight talented and energetic interns.

As our intern, you can expect to develop both on a professional and personal level whilst working in some of the leading innovation ecosystems in the world. The 6-month internship runs from February 1st 2023 until July 31st 2023. We require that you are able to express yourself orally and written in English and that you are currently enrolled in a master’s program. Ability to speak and write Danish is not a requirement, but will be considered an advantage.

What we expect from you?  

It is essential that you are curious and embrace working on diverse projects in a dynamic organization. We are looking for someone who thrives in an environment where you have influence in defining and executing day-to-day tasks, as well as larger projects, and who can work under tight deadlines. We are not looking for any specific study lines, rather, we prefer you are:
  • Interested in entrepreneurship, innovation, R&D, digital tech, health, life science, sustainability, business and future trends

  • Open-minded with a strong drive to perform individually as well as part of a team
  • A sharp analytical mind, able to interpret and communicate complex information clearly (incl. analysing and presenting data)
  • Attentive to details in everything you do
  • Familiar with SoMe tools essential to planning and executing campaign strategies and programs, e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn

  • Able to build a storyline and create supporting graphic content and use various IT tools
  • Positive attitude and a sense of humour

Who are we and what can we offer?

Innovation Centre Denmark in Silicon Valley and Boston are an innovative cooperation between the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science. We create bridges between research institutions, companies and capital from Boston and Silicon Valley and Denmark; facilitate research cooperation and provide inspiration to drive innovation and digital ambitions in Denmark and assist and accelerate the entry of Danish companies into the US;

The Consulate General in Silicon Valley also engages in export promotion (The Trade Council) with a focus on water and energy, and is home to Denmark Bridge and Invest in Denmark, and shares its office with the TechPlomacy team.

The internships are unpaid but include a monthly rent support of DKK 4,000.

The Innovation Centre Denmark in Boston and Silicon Valley and Consulate General in Silicon Valley are looking for eight new interns to work within the areas of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Digital Tech, Health, Sustainability, Life Science, Energy & Environment and Communication.

Energy & Environment (1 position in Silicon Valley)

As part of the Consulate General, the Energy and Environment team supports the green transition in California by sharing know-how and practical solutions on energy efficiency in industry and buildings, carbon capture, green hydrogen, and related topics. As California has similarly ambitious climate and CO2 reduction targets as Denmark, our team works to inspire effective energy policy and increase the adoption of energy efficient technologies and solutions in California, of which many have been developed by Danish stakeholders. When you join our “Green Team,” you can expect to work with Danish and Californian companies, industry associations, government and regulators, and academic institutions. Your profile can be either commercial or technical, but you should have an interest in energy, climate, and sustainability, and be curious about establishing an international career in this field.

The experience and skills that you bring to the team will determine your work assignments, which are likely to include:

  • Assistance to the government-to-government cooperation between Californian and Danish energy authorities.
  • Assistance to the Trade Council of Denmark with promoting Danish best practices, doing market research and help supporting Danish green tech companies in California.
  • Help in identifying and analyzing emerging trends, new technologies and research, and key policies within sustainability and decarbonization.
  • Prepare communications material, So-Me posts, fact sheets, articles, and reports for knowledge internal and external use about innovation, markets, and policies.
  • Planning and coordinating meetings, workshops, and webinars.

Innovation (3 positions in Silicon Valley)

Innovation Centre Denmark provides innovation advisory services to Danish companies and organizations, and is responsible for promoting Danish higher education and science in California and the Western US. We work with the following four strategic focus areas: Entrepreneurship, Digital Technologies, Sustainability and Health, and our mission is to promote growth and competitiveness in Denmark through knowledge and networks in the Silicon Valley ecosystem. Furthermore, the Innovation Centre works closely with the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science, and other stakeholders in the Danish innovation ecosystem, to connect Danish universities and research based companies to US partners. Some of our activities include arranging Boot Camps and summits for start-ups; Executive Academies and Master Classes, facilitate corporate innovation in Danish companies and support the entire Danish Business promotion system with international partnerships and foresight. We also tailor delegation visits, meetings, exchange programs and other partnership activities through our strategic partnerships with Stanford University, UC Berkeley and other world-renowned universities in the area. The team works with versatile projects, and you can expect to be assisting with the following activities:

  • Building and strengthening networks and partnerships between Danish and Californian research communities and promoting innovation in Danish companies and organizations by arranging delegation visits, meetings, workshops and other activities.
  • Supporting scholarship and exchange programs for Danish students in Silicon Valley organizing events and activities within entrepreneurship.
  • Collecting and analyzing data and information on emerging trends and best practice and prepare reports for knowledge sharing.
  • Promoting Danish political and public stakeholders’ key interests in California and the Western US in research, higher education and science based innovation.
  • Promoting the Danish government’s and public stakeholders’ key interests in California and the Western US in research, higher education and science based innovation.
  • Aiding Danish technology start-ups scale through Silicon Valley.

There will also be tasks for Invest in Denmark, working to attract investors to Denmark.

Communication & Marketing (1 position in Silicon Valley)

With our many goals and stakeholders come a need to communicate our activities and disseminate our knowledge in Denmark and California. Working with the policy and communication advisor, you will contribute to our overall communication and marketing efforts. Furthermore, The Innovation Centre implements an annual Innovation Project, taking an analytical deep dive into a current topic of relevance to Denmark – Going Green, Future of Leadership and Future of work are some of our previous publications. We research and provide insight into cases that can give them the Silicon Valley perspective. The intern will work with communicating and promoting the results, which is also an important part of the project. Furthermore, the communication intern also assists in tasks related to the consulate general e.g. events promoting Denmark and Danish values (Public Diplomacy) and assisting in official delegation visits. 

You can expect to assist with the following activities across the organization:

  • Planning and coordinating communication efforts across the organization.
  • Managing our web page and social media: we are active on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook.
  • Writing and producing content (articles, video, graphics) on social media and other promotional platforms including our newsletter.
  • Providing analytics and reviews on our channels helping to improve our online presence.
  • Supporting in developing and researching the annual Innovation Project.
  • Support in preparing delegation visits, and assist with public diplomacy events, etc.

Must have knowledge and experience with LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook. Experience with Twitter and knowledge of InDesign, Canva, Adobe Premier Pro, and/or Final Cut is a big advantage. 

Innovation and Business (1 position in Boston)

ICDK Boston provides innovation advisory services to Danish companies, startups and organizations. You will support our team in consulting and facilitating access to the Boston ecosystem and the US East Coast, within a wide array of technologies, but with focus on life science, AI, green transition, and sustainability. We arrange both digital and physical events, including but not limited to boot camps, conventions, academies, and master classes. You will assist the team with the following activities:

  • Building and strengthening knowledge, networks and partnerships.
  • Arranging delegation visits, scientific roundtables, educational workshops, webinars, meetings, and other activities.
  • Exploring emerging trends and preparing reports.
  • Assisting Danish companies with innovation consultancy.

Innovation, Research and Education (1 position in Boston)

ICDK Boston is responsible for promoting Danish science in Boston and the US East Coast with the aim of establishing even stronger DK-US research collaborations. We work closely with the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science and other stakeholders to connect Danish universities and research based companies to US partners. Especially the current Danish focus on green research is driving our work to find research partners that will help Denmark to achieve its ambitious goal in green transition. You will work on both research driven tasks and support crossover projects involving companies and startups. You will support in tailoring delegation visits, meetings, etc. through strategic partnerships and collaborations with world-renowned universities such as MIT and relevant institutions in the area. You will experience the cutting-edge research environment in Boston and assist with the following activities:

  • Promoting Danish research, innovation, and higher education and facilitate research collaborations.
  • Collecting, promoting, and disseminating best practice within science, sustainability, technology, innovation, and higher education in the Boston area and the US East Coast.
  • Through Entrepreneurship Academy to bring knowledge on entrepreneurial practices at high-ranked US universities to Denmark.
  • Promote the Danish Green research agenda and assist public and private organizations develop green transition technology solutions.
  • Assisting Danish companies with innovation consultancy.

Communication and Innovation (1 position in Boston)

To serve our many stakeholders comes a need to communicate our activities and disseminate our knowledge in Denmark and Boston. Working with the rest of the team in Boston, you will contribute to our overall communication efforts. Furthermore, you will work on building cases that can give our Danish stakeholders an insight in the cutting edge innovations conducted in Boston and the tasks we are doing for Danish Companies and universities. You will also be involved in innovation assignment ICDK Boston is working on for clients. Finally you will also assists in tasks related to events promoting Denmark and Danish values (Public Diplomacy) and assisting in official delegation visits.

You can expect to assist with the following activities across the organization:

  • Planning and coordinating communication efforts across the organization.
  • Writing and creating visual content on social media and other promotional platforms.
  • Managing our web page and Social Media: We are active mainly on LinkedIn.
  • Managing our newsletter.
  • Providing analytics and reviews on our channels helping to improve our online presence.
  • Assisting Danish companies with innovation consultancy.
